The local councils with the highest annual vehicle parking fine profits have been revealed, with the average profits over a 12-month period being £850,000, and the greatest earners bringing in around 10 times that amount.
The London Borough of Newham topped the list: between August 2019 and July 2020, it issued 239,000 vehicle parking fines. With an average fine amount of £44.46, this resulted in profits of £10.62 million.

Nine of the top 10 UK councils for parking-fine profits are in greater London, with all boroughs taking a lot more than £4 million in the 12-month period. After Newham, Haringey came second (137,415 fines; £9.89 million revenue) and Ealing was third (157,759 fines; £8.37 million revenue).

The only non-London authority to make the top 10 list was Glasgow City Council, which issued 104,938 fines at an average of £52.27, bringing in £5.48 million – this puts Glasgow in eighth place.
Birmingham City Council ranked second among the non-London authorities, issuing 112,735 fines, from which it earned £3.95 million. third was Brighton and Hove City Council (106,037 fines; £2.83 million revenue).
The average vehicle parking fine issued by a UK council during the 12-month period was £37. The London Borough of Haringey had the highest average fine, at £72.04, followed by Gosport Borough Council (£66.25) and Durham county Council (£57.93).
